Promoting British Values

Values and Ethos

Skinners’ Academy recognises the multi-cultural, multi faith and ever-changing nature of the United Kingdom. Situated in the heart of the country’s capital city we serve a diverse and exciting community.

“Be the best you can” – our Academy motto reflects our belief that all pupils, regardless of background or ability, should be supported to excel in all that they do. We understand the vital role the Academy plays in ensuring groups or individuals within the school are not subjected to intimidation or radicalisation by anyone wishing to unduly, or illegally, influence them. The Academy seeks opportunities to celebrate our community and their rich heritage from all round the globe.

We follow equal opportunities guidance which guarantees that there will be no discrimination against any individual or group, regardless of faith, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, political or financial status, or similar. Skinners’ Academy is dedicated to preparing pupils for their adult life beyond the formal examined curriculum and ensuring that it promotes and reinforces British values to all its pupils.

The Government emphasises that schools are required to ensure that key ‘British Values’ are taught in all UK schools.  The government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy.

The five British Values are as follows, click here for a full explanation of each British value:

  • Democracy
  • The rule of law
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual Respect
