Catering Arrangements

Family Service – Year 7 Only

  • All Year 7 pupils take part in Family Service at lunchtime. This means that they sit at a designated table with other members of their year group, and, with staff supervision, help to lay out crockery and cutlery, serve food, clear away etc. This helps to foster a spirit of co-operation and helps them to maintain healthy eating habits and good table manners.

  • The Year 7 pupils are all served the same hot main course, followed by dessert, and water is available at the table. If a student is vegetarian or vegan, they will be given an appropriate alternative.

  • The cost of lunch is £2.20 and is automatically charged to the child’s account. If Hackney Learning Trust tells us a child is entitled to Free School Meals then no charge will be made for lunch

Canteen Service

  • All Year 8 – 11 pupils are welcome to take their lunch via the canteen service (please see above for menus)

  • Year 8 – 11 pupils are permitted to bring in a packed lunch, which must adhere with the packed lunch policy


  • All of our meat is Halal certified, with the following exceptions:
    – Ham sandwiches and BLTs which are sometimes available at our self-service and which are clearly labelled as containing ham / bacon and
    – Pepperoni pizza which is hot and available as a break time snack, is not available at lunch and is clearly labelled as non-Halal

  • Apart from packed lunches, pupils must not bring any food or drink other than clear bottles of water into the Academy

Payment for Lunches.

  • Pupils are not allowed to bring any cash into the Academy for reasons of security. We therefore operate a cashless catering system. This enables parents to upload money onto their child’s account, either by payment online (using, or by Pay Point in any one of a number of local stores which display the PayPoint logo.

  • Parents will have a secure online account, activated using a unique set of activation codes. They will be prompted to change these and create your own secure Username and Password for future logins. Parents who have two or more children at the school can merge their accounts once logged in.
  • It can take a couple of days for payments to register on our systems, we therefore recommend that parents upload enough money every Friday night or Saturday morning to cover the cost of their child’s lunches (and break costs, see below) for the following week.

  • Parents choosing to pay cash are given a barcoded letter/card which they should take with their payment to their local PayPoint store. They should hand the letter/card and the payment to the till operator who will scan the bar code.
  • Pupils will be able to check the balance on their account by swiping their identity cards at the till in the dining hall and / or near the reception area. Parents will also be able to check the balance by logging onto

Break time

  • A variety of drinks and snacks are available for purchase at break time. Provided that a child has had sufficient money uploaded by a parent and provided the parent has given us authorisation, he/she will be able to spend up to a maximum as specified by the parent

Breakfast Club

  • We run an informal breakfast club each morning. Between 7:45am and 8:15am students may attend the dining hall where cereal, toast, hot food options, juice and water are available at no charge.

Data Handling and Protection

  • ParentPay holds a very limited amount of information about students and parents, solely for the purpose of administering the Parentpay accounts, and do not use your personal information other than for supporting Skinners’ Academy. ParentPay does not share or give information to any other organisations, and operates under strict guidelines set out by the Data Protection Act 1998.

  • ParentPay will NEVER contact you by phone, email or mail and ask you to divulge confidential information like passwords or card numbers.

  • Certain data will be held on the system to enable accurate operation. This will include name, form, photo, account balance and meal entitlement. This data will be handled under the guidelines of the Data Protection Act and only used by parties directly involved with the implementation of the system.
