Into University

Skinners’ Academy are proud to work with IntoUniversity, a charity that offers an innovative programme that supports young people to attain either a university place or another chosen aspiration. Selected students from all year groups are invited to take part in a number of activities every year and IntoUniversity aim to work with students all the way through their school careers . At Skinners’ Academy, this initiative is led by the Gifted & Talented Co-ordinators.

Our cohort of IntoUniversity pupils take part in a variety of workshops and activities throughout the year. For example, Year 7 students will be taking part in workshops such as “Choosing Success” and “Approaches to Homework”. Year 8 students will take part in a “Career Carousel” and a workshop about “Learning Preferences and Study Skills”. Year 9 students will take part in “Pathways to Success” and “Innovation” sessions. Year 10 and 11 pupils participate in programmes such as “Leadership” and in the Sixth Form there are a range of workshops including “Transition to University” and “Arranging Student Finance”.

As part of the programme, Skinners’ Academy pupils have also taken part in activities at Imperial College, Queen Mary University of London and more… and have benefitted from links with industry on the Careers in FOCUS programme and a marketing focused visit to Burberry.

Within school time it is specific pupils who participate in Into University programmes, however, benefits of the initiative are accessible to all as IntoUniversity offer mentoring, homework clubs and holiday activities at their centre in Hackney Downs.
