MATHEMATICAL STUDIES (CORE MATHS)

WHY STUDY CORE MATHS?

It helps to develop students’ mathematical skills and thinking and supports courses such as A-level psychology, sciences and geography, as well as technical and vocational qualifications.

COURSE CONTENT

• Analysis of data - communicating numerical data based on real contexts using graphs and indicators such as averages and measures of spread

• Maths for personal finance - application of mathematical ideas to real financial contexts including loans and taxation

• Estimation - making quick estimates of large numbers from limited information

• Critical analysis of given data and models (including spreadsheets and tabular data) for example data presented in politics and the media

• Critical analysis of data, for example data presented in politics and the media

• Expectation & Risk Analysis - calculating expected profit or losses given probabilities

• Critical Path analysis - using project management techniques including Gantt charts
