Principal's Welcome

Welcome to Skinners’ Academy, a co-educational academy in the north of Hackney. The Academy began life as the Skinners’ Company’s School for Girls in Stamford Hill in 1890. 

The girls’ school closed in 2010, relocating to a new site in Woodberry Grove and reopening as a co-educational school, with the sixth form opening shortly afterwards in 2014.

We continue to have close links with our sponsors, the Worshipful Company of Skinners, one of the ‘Great Twelve’ livery companies of the City of London, with a history dating back to the 11th century, and formally founded in 1327.

Our Academy’s motto is ‘Be the best you can be’ and the values we uphold and promote are curiosity, kindness, and bravery. We want the young people in our care to develop a love of learning, a consideration for others, and the courage to take on new challenges and stand up for what is right.

We are a rapidly improving school. Judged by Ofsted as a ‘good’ school in 2022, the inspectors noted that: ‘Pupils are happy in school, safe and ready to learn. Leaders and staff have high expectations for what pupils will achieve.’ Since then, we have built on those successes and continue to strive to provide an outstanding experience for all our students. Our students’ Key Stage 4 outcomes exceed national averages, and our sixth form is one of the top-achieving sixth forms in the borough for value-added results, with many students progressing to highly regarded universities following their graduation from the Academy.

We offer our students a genuinely enriching and well-rounded educational experience that both supports and challenges them, enabling them to develop into knowledgeable, skilled, resilient, and caring young people, equipped with the qualifications and attributes they need to thrive and succeed in adult life.

We have an ambitious and creative curriculum, designed and delivered with careful consideration of all students’ needs, talents, and interests. We support our students in achieving academic excellence by ensuring they receive outstanding teaching from highly skilled subject specialists. This is complemented by exceptional pastoral support, a comprehensive personal development curriculum, and a wealth of enrichment opportunities for all.
