Uniform Change from September 2026
In December, we sent you a letter informing you of a review of Skinners’ Academy’s uniform requirements. This was in light of the Department for Education’s updated statutory uniform guidance and parent feedback on the current uniform. As part of this review, we conducted surveys of both Skinners’ Academy pupils and parent/carers.
We would like to thank all who responded to the survey. We value the feedback and insight gathered from you and the young people of our school.
Following the review, it has been decided that in the best interests of affordability and accessibility, Skinners’ Academy will begin the process of a change to a new uniform from September 2026 onwards.

Halo Code
The academy recognises the right of pupils to style their hair in a way that is appropriate for school and makes them feel most comfortable. Furthermore, the academy welcomes the right for pupils to embrace all afro hairstyles.
Inspired by the Halo Collective’s ‘Halo Code’, we welcome and celebrate afro-textured hair worn in all styles.
However, pupils are not permitted to wear durags or bonnets at the academy as this does not meet our requirements for professional uniforms.
Schedule for Uniform Change
There is no expectation that current pupils purchase the new uniform for September 2026. If your child’s current uniform is wearable, they can carry on wearing it for the academic year September 2026 to July 2027.
Therefore, it is important to note that it is not compulsory to purchase the new uniform for the academic year September 2026 – July 2027.
From September 2026 – July 2027, Year 8–11 pupils may wear either:
- the current whole grey uniform, or
- the whole of the new uniform specified above.
However, pupils cannot mix the two different styles. If, for example, your child grows out of their blazer and you do not wish to replace the current grey blazer, then from September 2026 onwards you would be expected to purchase the new uniform.
Further Information
If you have any further questions or queries about the uniform change, please contact your child’s Head of Year.
