Key Stage 4 Options

In the coming weeks, Year 9 students will select their subject preferences for Key Stage 4. This is an important stage in their education and requires careful consideration to ensure each student follows a broad, balanced and appropriate programme of study that reflects both their interests and strengths.

Core Curriculum
All students will study the following compulsory subjects:

  • GCSE English Language
  • GCSE English Literature
  • GCSE Mathematics
  • GCSE Science (Combined or Triple)
  • Physical Education (PE)
  • Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE)

In addition, all students must choose either GCSE History or GCSE Geography.

Optional Subjects
Students will then select two additional option subjects, along with reserve (backup) choices. Backup options are required in case a subject is over- or under-subscribed, or if a particular combination cannot be accommodated within the timetable.

Guidance and Support
Students will receive support throughout the options process, including:

  • Information and guidance during form time
  • A one-to-one meeting with a senior member of staff before final choices are confirmed

Parents and carers are encouraged to support their child by discussing subject choices in relation to interests, strengths and possible future career pathways. A digital course booklet is available below to support these conversations.

Key Dates

  • Options forms issued: Friday 23rd January
  • Options forms deadline: Monday 9th February
  • Parents’ Evening and options presentation: Thursday 22nd January
