Sixth Form Business students participated in an Insight Day at London Business School, in April 2012, organised with Enabling Enterprise. Activities included career mapping and were of great use to the students.

As part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, Anti-Bullying Week and Children In Need students participated in a “Young Apprentice” challenge - and will be donating just under £300 to excellent causes... ChildLine and Children in Need
In November, 26 Skinners' Academy 6th formers took part in the UKMT Senior Maths Challenge - a challenge aimed at 16-19 year olds in England and Wales.
In November, we celebrated the achievements of ex and current students at Prize Giving, recognising the 2010-2011 academic year - with prizes awarded in line with the Academy values of friendship, respect, excellence, determination, inspiration, courage and equality.
Well done to Ewelina and Kasia who were invited to the premiere of the new Justin Timberlake movie In Time, following their success in creating an advertising campaign to promote it. 20th Century Fox loved their competition idea which was then published in the Metro, Heat and beyond, in the week leading up to the launch.
Described as "life changing" by one student, the Careers Awareness Fair in November was deemed a success. Year 10s, 11s and Sixth formers from North & East London schools were invited to attend. Congratulations to students and staff who organised a bake sale and raised £120 for Breast Cancer Care as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
This October, Skinners' Academy Year 7s and 8s celebrated Black History Month with a range of fantastic house assemblies including a short drama about Rosa Parks and student presentations about their black heroes.
As part of Local Democracy Week four 6th formers represented Skinners' Academy at Hackney Town Hall where young people had the opportunity to participate in a consultation with decision makers in Hackney, including Mayor Jules Pipe.
Congrats to the 6th formers on the Rep London employability programme who spent a day at global finance company CitiGroup where they successfully completed a "Financially Speaking" module - about budgeting and public speaking.
In their first week at Skinners' Academy, Year 7s enjoyed a camping trip at Treejumpers Adventure Centre where they experienced archery, climbing and more. The trip was set in an environment where students could put our core values of Friendship, Respect, Equality, Determination, Inspiration, Courage and Excellence into practice.
This summer, 10 Skinners' Academy students took part in the BBC's Horrible Histories Prom at the Royal Albert Hall. Congrats to Esin, Adam, Yolanta, Semmae, Jamali, Shaquele, Nyota, Owen, Michael, Mariam and Laolu - and look out for them on BBC1 - on Friday 16th September at 4pm.
With 4 out of 5 (81%) students gaining 5 A* - C grades and above in their GCSEs, there is a lot to celebrate at Skinners’ Academy. Furthermore, nearly 1 in 3 (32%) students excelled, gaining 3 A*/As in their GCSE results and 45% of students earned at least one A, highlighting the extent of individual successes.
Congratulations to Mehmet K. who had his story published in an anthology by East London based Ministry of Stories. They liked it so much, that they used his story title "Plenty of Petrol for 106 Miles" to represent the entire collection!
During the summer, our 6th formers experienced a taste of the world of video production on a Rep London training day at the BBC. They learned about filming and editing at BBC’s 21CC classroom in White City and during Hackney's One Movement festival in Clissold Park

Skinners' Academy Young Chambers presented their reasearch findings and design ideas to a distinguished panel including London Wildlife Trust and Berkeley Homes. The audience was so impressed with our students' ideas about community open space near to the Academy they have been asked to remain on the consultation body until the end of the project.

Massive congratulations to 6th formers Levi Peterkin and Yemi Aileru who are back in London following 10 days out at sea - voyaging as far as Scotland and Holland, as part of the HSBC / Tall Ships Trust initiative. A fantastic achievement!
“You’ll see me walking down these corridors in 10 years” said one of the 16 Year 7s who participated 'City for a Day', organised by The Brokerage Citylink. The students visited the City of London Marketing Suite and global law firm Reed Smith, in the programme designed to increase aspirations and awareness of city careers.
The Year 6s enjoyed their day at the Academy, getting the opportunity to look around the building and have lessons in Science, Art, and Maths as well as getting the chance to speak to our current Year 7s about their experiences. We all look forward to welcoming them to the Academy in September.
6th formers, Ifeyinwa, Nabeela and Daniela participated in The Smart Start Experience at Allen & Overy, an annual programme which gives young people across London an opportunity to gain an insight into the world of business
The Year 11s celebrated their RoA Day on Friday 24th June in the theatre at the Academy.
It was a great day - and we'd like to wish them all lots of luck and best wishes for their future ambitions.

The original stained glass window from the Skinners' Company's School for Girls established in 1890 has now been installed in the main reception of the Academy to stunning effect.
On Monday 23rd May the Yr 7s took part in a creative day with 'A New Direction'. Selected Yr 7 students lead the workshops and classes and got the opportunity to teach a class. The classes ranged from designing and making eco friendly t-shirts to designing decorative bunting. Well done to everyone involved!
Our five Trail Blazer winners were awarded by a visit to the House of Lords on Thursday 5 May. Accompanied by Mr. Francis and Ms. Wilkins the group got a tour of the House and watched a presentation from other Trail Blazer winners.
The overall challenge is made up of several smaller challenges; including Group Competition, Head-to-Head contest, Relay race and Crossnumber – the latter of which we won! Well done to our winning team!
On Tuesday 12th April Skinners' Academy was officially opened by HRH The Duke of Gloucester KG GCVO. Guests, including our governors, parents, associates of the Academy and Hackney's Mayor Jules Pike, enjoyed a tour of the new Academy as well as a live performance from the steel pans band and the unveiling of the commemorative plaque.
On Friday 10th March ‘The Secondary Forum’ for students with disabilities in Hackney was hosted by the Skinners Academy. 26 students from 7 Hackney schools attended with their teachers and support staff. The themes addressed at the forum were ‘Change, Aspiration, Life Journeys and Moving Forward’
Year 7 Academy students turn news journalists for the day to take part in the nation wide BBC project.
As part of National Science & Engineering Week, Year 7 will be taking part in a Cosmetic competition making a range of their own beauty products here in the Academy.
A group of Skinners’ Academy students were invited to attend the launch of ‘Fairtrade Fortnight’ and do a presentation to the local community at the Hackney Town Hall Council Chambers organized by the Hackney Council Fairtrade Steering Group.
A successful trip to Denizli in Turkey where our Sixth Form students visited our partner school Lutfi Ege Anadolu Ogretmen College. The trip also included visits to the fairtrade textile and weaving manufacturers in Buldan and Kizilcaboluk, and the stunning waterfalls in Antalya.
Eva Schloss, the step-sister of Anne Frank came to talk to Year 7 students about her time during the Holocaust in Auschwitz concentration camp. Year 7 had been working on Anne Frank’s Diary with the Anne Frank Trust and this very special assembly came at the end of the two weeks.
On the 27th of January the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz is always commemorated at Hackney town hall. Akeena Smith from Skinners' Academy Sixth Form gave a moving speech where she recounted her visit to the Auschwitz concentration camp and the lessons she learnt from studying the holocaust.
On March 3rd visiting author Alex Keller spent the day at the Academy. He read from his book Haywired during a special assembly to a captivated Year 7 audience. Throughout the day he ran workshops on creative writing and literacy, and had time to talk to our students about his experiences as a published author.
Our year 7s who helped with the planting of 100 trees around the Academy as part of London 2012s Changing Places programme to provide a lasting legacy for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
In order to promote the importance of drinking water throughout the school day, the challenge for every Year 7 was to produce a unique water bottle brand. Congratulations to the winning designs!
Year 7 students took part in a two day indoor rowing competition to give them a taster for the sport. They had to work as individuals and as teams to row as far as they could in the time provided.
After several hours the Rowan Tree was planted at the Academy site. The tree was originally presented to the Skinners' Company's School for Girls by the Old Girls Association and had been at the site in Stamford hill for over 20 years.
We welcomed business volunteers form Young Enterprise to Skinners' Academy to deliver an exciting enterprise workshop ‘Your School, Your Business’ for all the year 7s.
Skinners’ Academy has a rich musical history and guests were treated to a performance from our steel pans band at the Jack Petchey Awards hosted in the newly refurbished Stoke Newington Town Hall.
Skinners’ Academy has been successful in securing funding through the EU Comenius for an international project with our partner school Lutfi Ege Anadolu Ogretmen College, we welcomed two of their members of staff to our Academy in December.
